About Us

Oaklands Elementary School is a vibrant school community serving approximately 450 Kindergarten to Grade 5 students. Students are instructed in Fine Arts, Athletics, Core curriculum (Math, Language Arts, Science, Social Studies), Social Responsibility, and French for Grades 4 and 5.

Accompanying the classroom instructional program are a variety of extra-curricular opportunities, from chess club, LEGO Club, and Craft Club to noon-hour soccer. Teachers and parents work together to provide programs that engage students of all ages and interests.

In the arts, students participate in weekly classes in strings, visual art, dance, and drama. Guest performers visit the school from time to time to teach and entertain. Students have opportunities to showcase their talents in classrooms, concerts, talent shows, and other performances throughout the year.

Facilities
Oaklands features a full basketball court and a half-court in a separate area. Natural elements, including oak trees and rock outcrops, create a unique and inviting playground. Two adventure playgrounds keep students active and engaged during recess, Daily Physical Activity, and physical education classes. The Greening Project has enhanced grassy areas with native Victorian plants, and the courtyard provides students with hands-on opportunities to participate in seasonal plantings in the school garden.

Special Events
Special events at Oaklands make learning fun and engaging while offering unique opportunities for students to explore, create, and celebrate. Examples include Celebration of Learning assemblies, ArtsReach workshops, International Walk to School Day, fun runs, and reading weeks, among others. These events challenge each student in enjoyable and meaningful ways.

Parent Involvement
Parents are valued members of the Oaklands community and are encouraged to assist in classrooms, on field trips, in the library, with fundraising, on committees, and at special events. Our strong and active Parent Advisory Council, PAC, works closely with staff to enhance students’ learning experiences. The PAC can be contacted at victoria.oaklands.pac@gmail.com.

Oaklands is a positive, welcoming, and engaging environment. Our staff and students work together to make every day productive, enjoyable, and memorable. Through our ACORNS framework, Accountability, Cooperation, Organization, Respect, Nurturing, and Safety, students are guided to grow to be strong ACORNS, developing the skills, values, and confidence to thrive both in school and beyond.

Families and community members are always welcome to visit and see the school in action. We would love to show you around!
